85. Studio Hangs With Mati Rose McDonough.

In today’s episode I’m chatting with my friend, and one of my earliest connections in the online art world, Mati Rose McDonough. Mati and I first met when I was a guest speaker in one of her courses many years ago when I was coaching, and before I knew it, I was a student in a few of her online art classes.

Mati has had dozens of art shows, taught painting classes internationally and her illustrations grace all sorts of products from camera cases to giant elephant billboards as well as her own home décor line and dress line too. Mati says she still pinches herself after all these years that she is making her living as an artist.

Mati has also illustrated four children’s books including “I carry your heart” written by poet E.E. Cummings. Through her workshops, books, and popular online course, she has been such a massive source of inspiration and encouragement to artists worldwide.

It was such a joy to catch up with Mati, so this is a very informal and light conversation.  It also happened on the first day of our 6th lockdown here where I live and also when my new puppy Suki was being a bit of a rascal, so please be aware that there are a few distractions in this conversation.

I really hope you enjoy this chat with Mati Rose McDonough.

Some of the key moments include;

  • How Mati helped me birth my first art-babies.

  • How a dark time in Mati’s life prompted an exploration of her abstract painting practice.

  • Mati’s experiences creating international art retreats.

  • Thoughts on longevity as a professional artist.

  • How Mati collaborates with other inspiring, creative women.
