If you’ve ever dreamed of setting up your easel along the banks of the River Seine, enjoying a café au lait at a charming sidewalk café with sketchbook in hand, or strolling the magnificent gardens of Versailles and Giverny, you’re dreaming of springtime in Paris with me!

Walk in the footsteps of famous Impressionists with us as we set up home and studio in the up-market neighbourhood of Levallois-Perret, with the Seine by our side and all of the grandeur of Paris just minutes away.

No other city in the world holds as much artistic inspiration for me as Paris. The art that I have seen here has had a permanent affect on my own art practice. In this 7 day art retreat experience I can’t wait to share with you some of my most loved art and museum inspiration alongside my own mixed media painting instruction.

I’m so delighted to be partnering with the wonderful folk at Arts and Cultural Travel to bring you a painting and art-history experience like no other, in the most beautiful city in the world- Paris.

Allow me to paint you a picture.

An art podcast for painters, creatives and fine artists of all kinds. Susan Nethercote and her guests gives their perspective on what it takes to have a profitable art business and a nourishing art practice.

ART WORKSHOP

I will be teaching my mixed media acrylic painting process with a focus on my Abstracted Floral and Botanical styles. Since I teach my very accessible style of painting from the beginning, this workshop is completely suitable for both beginners and experienced painters. The techniques that I teach can also apply to any style of work that the painter chooses to make, including abstract work.

Overview of Instruction

Day 2- Workshop 1 (½ day 19th May): Intro to mixed media floral acrylic painting- surface preparation and first layers in fluid acrylics.

Day 3-Workshop 2 (full day 20th May): First layers continued moving onto second layers and heavy-bodied acrylics

Day 5- Workshop 3 (1/2 half day 22nd May): Working in Mixed Media. Learning to use oil pastels, wax pastels to accent floral forms and create depth and highlights in their work.

Day 6- Workshop 4 (1/2 to full day May 23rd): Mark Making Techniques. Learn how to make differing marks for background texture using different brush shapes, silicone blades, paint and gel pens.

I’ll teach how I create my more stylised abstracted botanical work where I carve out negative spaces in my canvas to reveal floral forms.

During this art-filled journey, I will also bring along her extensive knowledge of art history. I will bring each location we visit alive with facts and stories about the ‘real’ lives of the artist’s whose work we will be discovering on our excursions.
